Paul's Workshop - The Gardens engine room
Paul's workshop space is a little larger than the Germination room as there are many tools to house here to use in the manufacture of items for use around the gardens. The starting point was the same as Loraine's room with hay on the floor, hay feeder to remove along with the water bowl. The roof had to be renewed to stop water ingress as the tools would have gone rusty very quickly in a damp atmosphere so the whole of the West roof was replaced in one go. The rubber mats had to be taken out, and they were very heavy too, as the floor underneath needed to be washed, cleaned, and sterilized before replacing the mats. As Paul works on electrics and welding in the workshop, the rubber mats are a good grounding to avoid electric shocks.
The walls needed the same work on them as in Loraine's workshop and the frame timbers were covered over with builders OSB board as you can see on the above photo before we painted them to keep it bright and cheery.
Paul also built a saw table to handle the bigger woodworking jobs that were on the list around the property and also needed was a wrap-around bench to put the power tools on.
Other shelving needed to be made and the electrics upgraded to take in the extra power requirements so Paul rewired the whole of the Stable Block at the same time so each room had multiple sockets for ease of use. The cables for the electrics, telephone, and internet had to be run in from the house, first into the Stable Block, then onto the sand-ring shed when it was built, then carry on up to the garden hut at some later date when that was ready to be done.
There are still some extra tables to be made up for using routers and other saws, and the kitting out of the workshop took a lot of time in itself as there were so many items to find a home for. As the Stable Block was just used for horses, locks and fittings had to be installed and CCTV cameras set up for security monitoring which is all done now.
The inner workshop is where electrical and electronic work is carried out along with the repairs of items around the property and this was once the Tack Room for the Stable Block as seen in the above picture, top right. Again, everything had to be cleaned out as in the other two rooms but with much more shelving to handle all of the hardware items, screws, nails, Etc. There is also a Linux computer to do searches online for information or to watch work videos to see how certain jobs are carried out, it also doubles up as a music centre to play music in the rooms whilst we are working.
The roof over this section still needs to be renewed as do the other two untouched rooms, but there is little in the way of water ingress so it is not so important in the great scheme of things, but will eventually need to be addressed, but it is all clean and tidy with the walls freshly painted so it is a nice place to work in. No doubt things will be moved around until it performs well with all items easy to find, and easy to use but that will come in time.
