St.Georges Road (B3279) lies between Newquay and St.Austell, Situated in mid-Cornwall with easy access to all points. The village is well spread along the main road with a heavier cluster of dwellings at the North of the village. We are situated on the south side next to a post office near the Nanpean Community School.

All around the area are the China Clay pits which have been in use since William Cookworthy found the clay in 1745, went on to patent it and founded the ‘Plymouth Porcelain Factory’ and sold fine china to the gentry and even supplied other porcelain factories with the clay. At one point 65,000 tons was mined each year and became known as the largest source of kaolin clay in the world. Large peaks sprouted up in the area from the spoil (1 ton of clay = 5 tons of spoil) and became known as the Cornish Alps.

Many of those Alps are now overgrown and provide the setting for a China Clay Country Park with 26 acres of woodland, is also home to the famous Wheal Martyn Heritage Museum and the area has many trails providing access to the charming landscape for all.
