On moving into The Stables in Nanpean, Cornwall, one of the first things we commented on
was the lack of plants and in turn the clour they provide for us to soothe our senses. Since that time we have been planing many projects, some large, some small, but all with the aim to improve the diversity of the property with plant and colour enhancement.
Before Christmas 2019 we purchased a lot of flower bulbs and used troughs and pots to plant them in to give us a show of colour in the spring and this has worked beautifully as you can see above.
In the top photo, you can see that the pots are sitting on a gravel-covered strip of ground that did nothing to enhance the area. So we decided to make it a little more pleasing to the eyes. After removing all the gravel, Paul put in a raised bed using left-over wood from the sand-ring and we filled the void with the well-rotted horse manure that is at the back of the sand-sing on the right side, there appear to be many tons of this we can use to our benefit.
This free manure has served us well so far and we have hardly touched the amount that is there. It has been used for pots and troughs, the potatoes and the strawberries, re-potting of many trees and now we have filled the new raised bed with it, excellent.
So the new bed is in and we have planted it up with many of the purchases we have been buying since moving here. Some include Fuchsia, Acers, Agapanthus, Daisy, etc. They should make a great show during the warmer months. Anyways, here is a photo of the new bed just installed.
