The bespoke living room bookcase to house much of our library is finished.

So these last 10 days or so has been catching up on the internal work in the house. A large bookcase in the living room is now complete and another bookcase in the kitchen to house all the cookery books, well, nearly all
Pictures of the works are shown below. The shelves were made from Pine, planed timber 8.5 inches deep so there will be no sag in the shelves from the weight of the books of which there are hundreds.

Also completed was a new shelving wall unit in the kitchen and a new bookcase in the office to house various books and other items in use.
Loraine got a new portable plant station for the ‘Garden Workshop’ which she can put seedlings and such on two shelves and wheel them out into the patio so they can be hardened off in spring, then wheeled back in at the end of the day.

We have been busy running around buying furniture for the house and got some very good buys if I may say so. For the hallway, we picked up two antique spinning chairs and a table for the measly price of £50.

Spinning chairs and table.

We also managed to buy a solid kitchen table and four farmhouse chairs, an old dresser for the kitchen, and some bedroom furniture. So we are nearly done with that side, just a bed frame for the guest bedroom and we are done.

Kitchen dresser, sort of shabby chic.

We are still unpacking boxes but have made great progress on that side and the rooms are now almost habitable. The garden workshop is pretty much finished but the tool workshop still has much to be done but is now operational for building projects and this was where the shelving projects and others were done.

On Monday this week coming we have lots of materials being delivered to the sand ring and fields. 3 tons of ballast (for making concrete), 1.5 tons of building sand, and a pallet of concrete building blocks.

For the fields, we will be having 6 tons of graded topsoil and 6 tons of compost along with a further 3 tons of organic compost coming in 60l bags.
This will enable us to prepare the fields ready for planting which will take the Autumn peas and broad beans which will crop in early summer next year. All of our beds will be on the No-Dig technique which apart from taking less work will produce great rewards from the garden.

We also have received our Fig Tree, and there are 6 apple trees, 2 pear trees, a plum tree, a walnut tree, and 2 cherry trees on order which will arrive sometime over the 4-5 months for planting in the winter months.
These are young trees only 2 years old so will take a few years to reach maturity and good cropping age.

We already have 2 apple trees and a pear tree (which by the way has produced 6 lovely pears) to add to our ever-expanding collection.
This will give us an orchard of some 16 trees producing a wide range of fruits over the summer and autumn months.

As the internal works are nearing completion our attention is now turning to the outside of the property. There are repairs to the front wall to do and we wish to build many raised beds for taking various fruit bushes, etc, that will also look great when completed. More pics to show when they are done.
