It seems like an age ago that we decided on our choice of house and since then it has
largely been in the hands of the solicitors.
At first, everything seemed to be moving along well. Our buyer for our place was dead keen to move in and the house owner in Cornwall was dead keen to move out, what on earth could go wrong?
It all seemed fine until one day I received an email saying we should order the searches! I mean, I had paid for them some five weeks earlier and we were waiting for them to come back, not order them.
I telephoned the conveyancers who were taken aback by the lack of order but I was quickly put on to the search manager who got the searches in immediately and by the afternoon the first searches had been returned. However, the main searches, drainage, and local area would take over two weeks minimum.
This held everything up and all we could do was twiddle our thumbs until they returned. Once they did the solicitor said she would get on to it.
TWO WEEKS later and nothing had been done at all and we are still waiting to be able to exchange!
After talking to many people pretty much ALL of them said the same thing – do not trust solicitors to either call you back or rush your purchase – it just does not happen.
My patience is now wearing VERY thin and I think an explosion is about to occur very soon now. I shall talk to them tomorrow (Tuesday 17th June) and try to get things moving.
More later……
